Colored Stones: A New Collection From Phillips House Plus a Shuttered Mine Makes Sleeping Beauty Scarce

CAN’T-MISS COLLECTION

Study in Contrasts

Phillips House plays with foils in its new Contrast collection featuring pairs of malachite and tsavorite, and kyanite and blue sapphire, in yellow gold (a hematite and diamond combo is in the works). “It’s the notion of contrast—two distinct stones in distinct styles, sharing the center stage,” explains codesigner Lisa Frankel. Retail prices start at $900.

HOT STOCK TIP

American Beauty

When most people think about turquoise, the Sleeping Beauty variety is what they envision: a soft, creamy blue prized for its smooth, consistent appearance. But supplies are limited. The Arizona mine was recently shuttered by new management, forcing jewelers to scramble for alternatives. If Sleeping Beauty is your thing, remember: You snooze, you lose.
