Elaborate Ice Sculpture Wins JIC Contest

“Something in the Ice,” a proposal story from Melissa Geer and Daniel Monarko of Pittsburg, Pa., has won the Jewelry Information Center’s third annual Ultimate Proposal Contest.

Geer submitted her story—which featured an ice sculpture with the words “Melissa, will you marry me?”—to the online contest. The American public cast more than 53,000 votes and a panel of judges chose a grand-prize winner out of the 20 top entries.

Geer and Monarko received a vacation package from Sandals Resorts as well as a platinum and diamond pendant.

“‘Something in the Ice’ is the ultimate proposal story because it has the elements that make marriage proposals special—surprise, thoughtfulness, and of course a beautiful engagement ring,” Amanda Gizzi, spokesperson for the Jewelry Information Center, said in a statement.
