Crown & Caliber Launches Retailer Trade-In Program

The e-comm site wants to liquidate your luxury watch inventory

Those Panerai and Omega watches that have long languished under glass in your store? Pre-owned watch retailer Crown & Caliber wants to make you an offer.

The Atlanta-based e-comm company launched a retailer-facing initiative this week that boils down to buying up luxury watches from brick-and-mortar retailers that have been sitting for too long. The company is on the hunt for watches from nine brands, specifically: Panerai, Rolex, Breitling, TAG Heuer, IWC Schaffhausen, Cartier, Patek Philippe, Omega, and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Hamilton Powell, CEO of Crown & Caliber, says it’s a campaign that’s long been in the works, adding, “We always knew that a lot of retailers have so much unsold inventory—we are looking to help them liquidate. We’re powering their trade-in.”

The process is pretty straightforward: Retailers interested in selling inventory fill out a quote form from Crown & Caliber online, then send in their merch. Powell says a company staffer has been dedicated to helping retailers trade in their wares.

Having a place to sell pre-owned luxury watches with confidence also empowers retailers to buy watches from clients with confidence, he says, adding, “They won’t have to say no when someone comes in with a great watch—they can buy confidently.”

Al Rahm, executive vice president of retail operations at Mayor’s, recently worked with Powell to liquidate a batch of luxury watches, and told JCK the purchases “enabled Mayor’s to generate incremental sales from customer trade-ins.”

Powell says he hopes to acquire $20 million in inventory from retail partners in 2017.
