These red carpet–ready beauties pack a wallop
We experienced a high point on the Golden Globes red carpet on Jan. 10. In the interest of staying positive, let’s hope that Jan. 17’s Critics’ Choice Awards was proof that even celebrities need a break from the glitz and glamour of awards season—because really, where the heck was the jewelry? The gowns were great—many of them tremendous, in fact—and, actually, a lot of the accompanying jewelry was exquisite in its own right. But it just wasn’t enough, not for the red carpet. Not for us discerning magpies, looking for something to rock our socks while we watch from our couches, champagne in hand, jamming cheese-filled cracker after cracker into our mouths (wait, just me?). Where there was the occasional stroke of magnificence (the always-miraculous Tracee Ellis Ross in stunning coral earrings), there was a bare-necked, naked-eared star to match. And it wasn’t just Amy Schumer this time. Seriously though, can we get her to wear just one jewel, even? I’d take studs at this point! What I did notice, though, is that the jewelry most stars opted to wear—if they wore it at all—was composed of diamonds. A distinct change from the colored gemstones of the Golden Globes. It’s not a complaint (who doesn’t love diamonds?), but for the red carpet, we prefer our jewelry to be major with a capital M. No one ever says, “Hey, remember those diamond studs Angelina wore to the Oscars?” But they do remember the time Anne Hathaway wore millions of dollars in diamonds that came with their own security guard. So in the interest of diamonds, and the upcoming Academy Awards, let these beauties be an inspiration. For you, for your customers (hey, maybe you even have celebrity clients! I won’t press for details), and for red carpets everywhere.
