If Sunday night’s very pleasing Academy Awards red carpet proved anything, it’s that the statement necklace is back and bigger than ever. From Margot Robbie’s Van Cleef & Arpel’s vintage stunner to ScarJo’s Poison Ivy–like concoction draped around her neck to the turquoise dream on Cate Blanchett and every diamond in between, collars were where it was at. For those who don’t have a movie-star budget or who must go without access to borrowing million-dollar jewels, there is this necklace from Laura Gibson. Rich blue stones such as aquamarine, blue quartz, kyanite, treated sapphire, and blue chalcedony mix it up in this color party that just shouts summer by the sea. I can picture it with a strapless dress (a style that always calls for a necklace), lightly blowing in the warm breeze on the beach or white-washed patio. I’m dreaming of warmer locations, can you tell? At $1,700 retail, the cascading sterling necklace won’t be an impulse buy for many, but it’s a purchase that will get lots of wear and admirers to boot.
