Retailers Can Now Sell Products From Pinterest

What’s more powerful than the Pinterest “Pin it” button? Maybe its new “Buy it” button.

Pinterest is adding buyable pins—which will let consumers buy products straight from the social networking service.

The buy it buttons will include price and other filters to let shoppers customize the product to their taste. Checkout will be done through Apple Pay and other online payment services. The site will not take a proceed of the sale.

Retailers such as Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus have already signed up for the service, the company says.

For now, it is otherwise limited to companies that use the Shopify and Demandware commerce platforms, but it says it wants to work on “more integrations in the future.”

Still, the company expects there to be 2 million buyable pins by the end of the month.

Pinterest has become a favorite among jewelers: According to an article in the May 2015 issue of JCK, women make up more than 80 percent of its 70 million users.

More information can be seen on the company’s blog.
