Diamonds: Color-Enhanced Diamonds Make Colored Diamonds (More) Affordable

TREND GAME

Fancy Fee

Given the soaring prices that colored diamonds have achieved at auction, the fancy colored rocks would seem out of range for most consumers. But thanks to some of the industry’s major manufacturers, consumers now have access to a rainbow of color-enhanced diamonds that are grown in a lab or irradiated or high-pressure, high-temperature–treated (HPHT) to change their color. The cost reduction compared with natural-color diamonds can be enormous—so long as you remember that disclosure is the law.
