What’s in Store for Breitling, Hardy

Two noted brands recently opened their first retail outlets.

Breitling’s first retail store opened on East 57th Street in New York City on Dec. 26. Located across from Tiffany & Co.’s flagship, it will carry 900 Breitling timepieces. The New York store will be followed by outlets overseas in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Saint-Tropez, France. Breitling U.S.A. marketing director Lisa Roman says there are no finalized plans for other U.S. locations.

John Hardy also opened its first retail operation, a 22-square-meter boutique located in the Plaza Indonesia shopping mall in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Breitling’s flagship features work by postmodern pop artist Kevin T. Kelly.

Its interior is meant to reflect the landscape and spirit of Bali, with bamboo columns and decorative carved panels, silver-accented display cases, river rocks, and one-of-a-kind, hand-carved door handles. Designed by creative director and head designer Guy Bedarida, the dragon-motif handles are crafted from sterling silver and Indonesian black palm wood and paved in black sapphires, with eyes set with moon quartz. The design references the Naga, a dragon-like creature representing prosperity and good luck in Asia.
