Sarah Graham Metalsmithing’s Eco Effort

From the Sarah Graham Metalsmithing blog: “Our New Year’s Resolution … No, we are not joining a gym, but we are trying to slim down—on mailings, that is! During our recent annual meeting, we set a goal to reduce our paper mailings by 20 percent by the end of 2008.”

The company wants customers to help by asking to be removed from its print mailing list and providing an e-mail address instead. Customers also can view the company’s newsletters and brochures on its Web site.

Sarah Graham’s work displays a reverence for the natural world, as evidenced by the names of her product lines including Manzanita, Pebbles, Stepping Stones, Oyster, and Conifer. She also has a line of bridal rings with names like Kyoto, Bamboo, Leaf, and River Rock.

Graham uses only diamonds that are certified conflict free. Her German supplier sources white and black diamonds from Africa and cognac diamonds from Australia. Graham uses recycled gold that’s sent to a refiner in Portland, Ore., whose techniques Graham herself researched to ensure they were in line with her company’s earth-friendly goals.
