MFMA Marks 75 Years of Service

The Providence, R.I.-based Metal Findings Manufacturers Association (MFMA) this year celebrates its 75th anniversary. The organization was founded in 1928 by Providence-area toolmakers, machinists, and metal craftsmen to share knowledge and techniques for making metal jewelry parts, and also served as a social group. Now, using the power of increased membership, the association works to promote its members and their products.

All of the 60-plus companies in the association manufacture findings in a variety of metals including gold, silver, gold-filled, brass, copper, steel, and more. Most create standard lines as well as tooling and custom parts. Association members come from many areas of the country, and any company in the business of manufacturing metal parts is welcome to join the association.

Activities include “mini trade shows” in which 10-20 association members travel to various cities to put on small, hotel-based shows—in effect, going to their customers. The MFMA maintains a Web site (www.mfma.net) where visitors can learn about member companies and find links to their sites, as well as find a source for parts. Meetings are held every other month, with speakers invited.
