Encapsulating a major metropolis in the space of half a finger is no easy feat. But German jeweler Wempe’s New York City ring does just that. In the one-of-a-kind piece—part of a series of 13 city-themed custom rings in the Cosmora collection, the newest in the By Kim line—Manhattan’s massive skyscrapers shrink to jagged diamond skylines straddling a verdant Central Park (rendered in green diamonds, green tourmalines, and blue topazes). Company owner Kim-Eva Wempe wanted the design to evoke “the feeling of a visitor experiencing the city for the first time,” and contrast “the lush nature in Central Park” with the “imposing backdrop of steel skyscrapers.” The notion that “anything is possible in New York” was another inspiration, says Wempe, adding cheekily, “Welcome, visitors, to the New World.” Hunting and Gathering The ring—designed by Catherine Plou
