De Beers to Settle Lawsuit in October

The forms that allow industry members to claim their share of the De Beers $290 million antitrust settlement should be available in October 2007, according to Jewelers Vigilance Committee. The fund will be divided among industry class members—defined as direct and indirect purchasers and resellers of diamonds, such as retailers. JVC plans to post the forms on its Web site, jvclegal.org.

JVC noted that many trade members have been approached by entities that offer to facilitate the submission of these claims for a fee. JVC said it takes no position regarding the value of the services provided by these entities but notes that completing the forms will be a simple process. JVC also said its Web site will provide guidance on filling them out.

Reseller class members also can direct questions about the forms to Cecilia Gardner, JVC’s president, at jvcquestions@aol.com.
