Appointments

The Gemological Institute of America has announced two promotions. Vivian Wang was promoted to director of the Institute’s Taiwan branch. Wang, who has served as manager of the location for the past 12 years, will continue to oversee all operations. Stella Lee, Hong Kong branch manager, was promoted to director of the branch. Lee, who joined GIA Hong Kong as an instructor in 1998, will continue to direct operations.

Cartier has announced five appointments. Ann Fahey has been named vice president of public relations. Before joining Cartier, Fahey served as executive director, fashion public relations, at Chanel Inc. Manuela Barrera will serve as manager of the company’s Manhasset, N.Y., boutique. Previously, Barrera managed the Cartier boutique at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. Magdalena Wald will serve as manager of the Troy, Mich., boutique. Previously, Wald assisted at several Cartier boutiques, including those in Houston, Phoenix, Toronto, and Chicago. Robin Wilkes will serve as manager of the Dallas boutique. Previously, Wilkes was the designated selling associate for the Yves Saint Laurent at Neiman Marcus at the downtown Dallas location. Patrick Champalou will serve as manager of the King of Prussia, Pa., boutique. Most recently, Champalou worked for Lagos in Philadelphia.

Charles & Colvard has promoted Dennis M. Reed to executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Reed will oversee the entire sales and marketing staffs at Charles & Colvard, both domestically and internationally.

William C. (Bill) Kouns has been named president of Jewelry Television. Kouns, a co-founder of Jewelry Television, previously served as chief operating officer and senior vice president overseeing merchandising and marketing. In his new role, Kouns will be responsible for business operations.

CurtCo Media, publisher of Robb Report, Worth, ShowBoats International, and other titles aimed at affluent readers, has appointed Carol Brodie to the newly created position of chief luxury officer. Brodie joins CurtCo after eight years as global director of communications at Harry Winston Inc. Before joining Winston, Brodie served as spokeswoman and manager for the Diamond Information Center on behalf of De Beers, through its agency of record, J. Walter Thompson.

Mayors Jewelers has appointed Daisy Chin-Lor to the new position of senior vice president and chief marketing officer. She will hold the same position with Birks, the Canadian jewelry chain that assumed control of Mayors in August 2002. Chin-Lor assumes overall responsibility for the advertising, communication, public relations, events, direct marketing, and visual presentation for both companies. Prior to joining Mayors and Birks, Chin-Lor served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Elizabeth Arden Spas. She previously was executive director of Russell Reynolds Associates in New York; chairman, president, and managing director of Chanel Thailand; and corporate vice president, New Markets–Asia Pacific, with Avon.
