AGS Recertifies Stuller Exec.

J.P. Walrond, business vice president of bridal jewelry for Stuller Inc., an American Gem Society Registered Supplier, has successfully completed the AGS annual re-certification examination.

The mandatory examinations were developed to maintain professional credentials and uphold educational and ethical standards for membership in AGS. Walrond earned the title of Registered Jeweler following the successful completion of a course of study and examination covering topics in advanced gemology and the jewelry industry. To maintain titleholder status, AGS Registered Jewelers must pass an annual exam on the latest industry developments. This ensures that they will stay up to date on the information required to provide customers with accurate and knowledgeable services.

Separately, the firm also announced the retirement of Ray B. Stroup Jr., who served as executive vice president of the marketing division for the past 13 years. His retirement, effective at the end of 2004, culminates a career of more than 20 years of marketing experience.

“Ray has provided an exemplary level of executive leadership for Stuller’s marketing efforts during his tenure,” says Stuller chairman and CEO, Matthew Stuller. “Building on the company’s pioneering efforts in the use of full-color catalogs to market jewelry products to both retail jewelers and, through them, to consumers, Ray has successfully moved Stuller into extensive direct mail, digital, and event-based marketing programs as well. Much of this effort has been directed not only to the trade but also in building programs that retailers use to build consumer traffic.”

Stroup will continue working on individual projects for the company on an as-needed basis. At press time, Stuller had begun an executive search to fill the position.
