WatchesThe phrase economies of agglomeration is a theoretical way of describing what the organizers of Madison Avenue Watch Week learned in practice: “People like to shop in a place where there’s a large selection,” says Matt Bauer, president of the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District, whose second annual watch shopping week earned heaps of attention (plus a mayoral proclamation) April 28–May 4 in New York City. A mix of locals and out-of-towners attended cocktail receptions, educational seminars, and product launches at 18 participating boutiques—where brand-new merchandise, such as the limited-edition Koppel watch at Georg Jensen, or the Heritage collection at Breguet, made its U.S. debut.
