The diamond industry in Zimbabwe, which has been a public relations nightmare for the industry after the government allegedly killed hundreds of local diggers in 2008, may be growing larger.
Zimbabwe’s minister of mines, Obert Mpofu, now claims there are new diamond discoveries in several parts of the country, according to African press accounts.
Already, the discoveries in the Marange region could turn Zimbabwe into the world’s top diamond exporter, experts say.
This summer, the Kimberley Process okayed limited shipments from the Marange region.
