When Israeli pearl brand Yvel decided to move beyond its iridescent jewelry niche, it launched the Rainbow Collection of sapphire slices set in organic-looking styles that mimicked the effect of its signature designs. Two years later, the gemstone line has been successful enough to warrant adding an extension, this one with warmer colors. Meet Yvel’s newest addition: smoky quartz in whiskey, cognac, and champagne hues.
With color names like those, staff has a good time during presentations using lines like “You can get intoxicated by these stones” and “I have to check your ID before I show you this line.” Corny, sure—but they work.
Launched at trunk shows in February (and officially to the trade at Baselworld) many of the pieces feature bezel settings, Yvel’s signature satin finish in 18k yellow gold, versatile brown hues, and stones that are cut into slices like their sapphire siblings. About two-thirds of retailer appointments—from St. Louis to San Francisco—have placed orders since the line’s debut, many stating that they’d “been looking for a simple bezel-set line because it feels like the ‘next big thing,’” a company rep told JCK yesterday. To date, there are 24 SKUs in existence, with more to come during Jewelry Week 2012. Suggested retail prices start at around $1,000.
