From Runways to Rolexes, Yellow Gold Shines Again

Share

Gold has never been more newsworthy. As the precious metal nears the $4,000-an-ounce mark, we wanted to find out what people in the trade are saying about it with respect to trends in both fashion and business. Has there been less interest in the metal, or, counterintuitively, more? Is gold really the flex that big diamonds used to be? Which styles are poised to rule the holiday?

Below, a handful of industry experts weigh in.

“Everyone has their gold preference—some gravitate toward rose tones, others swear by white. But this season, the fall 2025 runways made a strong case for the return of bold, sun-drenched yellow gold. After seasons dominated by silver and the pared-back palette of ‘quiet luxury,’ designers re-embraced warmth. The kind of gold that once felt gauche suddenly looks right at home.”

“Prices are in such extraordinary turmoil at the moment. Both the gold price itself and the ‘yes, no, are they, aren’t they?’ on tariffs. But in a way, introducing Single Mine Origin Gold, which to a jewelry brand might have a 2% impact on their gold price, it’s not that significant in the grand scheme of what’s going on at the moment. And in a way, it’s such a tumultuous time on pricing that it’s actually quite an easy time to have this conversation because it’s a no-brainer. Okay, there is a marginal price implication for choosing SMO, depending on what product you’re buying and where you’re sourcing, but there is a considerable upside.’”
—Charlie Betts, cofounder, Single Mine Origin (SMO) Gold

“We find ourselves in the midst of a yellow gold renaissance. Its resurgence is not simply a nod to nostalgia, but a reflection of changing priorities. Today’s buyers value meaningful design, long-lasting materials, and the quiet confidence that yellow gold exudes. Whether in vintage-inspired solitaires or modern, pared-back bands, yellow gold is writing a new chapter in the story of engagement rings, one that honors tradition while embracing contemporary elegance.”

“We’ve been doing really well with gold watches, especially Rolex Presidents from the 1990s and 2000s. It does help that we’re seeing gold prices at record highs. It’s in the headlines so these watches are becoming more of an investment in the minds of consumers.”

“Yellow gold hasn’t been the star of the scene in recent years, but for holiday 2025, we’ll see a strong return. The trend is leaning toward bold, statement-making pieces—think wider cuffs, textured finishes, and chunky hoops. Layering will play a big role, with a mix of smaller, delicate pieces paired with larger, bolder ones. Charms and lockets are making a comeback, adding a nostalgic and personal element.

“There’s also growing interest in vintage and antique yellow gold, fueled not only by rising gold prices and tariffs but also by a desire for craftsmanship and uniqueness. One-of-a-kind, non–mass produced pieces will resonate strongly. Yellow gold cocktail rings and playful designs like pinky rings will be popular, alongside colorful gemstones set in gold. Gold itself will be embraced as a status symbol, with its scarcity enhancing its covetability.”
