When Are the Best Times to Blog and Post to Social Media?

I spoke on a panel at the WJA’s In the Know Conference this past Friday that offered advice on blogging and social media best practices.

One audience member asked a question regarding the best times to post on social media or your blog.

I wanted to add to the discourse with a few more suggestions and an infographic I thought might be helpful.

A recent study by HubSpot found evidence that later in the day and the week is the best time to garner retweets. It also suggested the more you tweet, the more opportunity you have to gain traction for your message. (Word of caution: It’s a fine line between getting out your message effectively and annoying your followers.)

The study also finds that weekends tend to be the best for Facebook sharing; although here at JCK we’ve also found that posting later during the day gets a better response than during the early/late afternoon. And as you might expect, the more images the better.

Blogs tend to be read in the morning and afternoons, according to this study. As with social media, the more you blog, the better.

I’ll add three more of my own tips before I unleash this infographic on you. You should follow these three commandments when you’re creating content for your brand or store:

  1. Be honest.
  2. Be human.
  3. Don’t be boring.

Let me know your best practices for social media and blogging, and if this infographic from LinchpinSEO matches the results that you’ve seen with your marketing campaigns.
