What the Big Jewelry Chains Got From the De Beers Antitrust Settlement

Sure, many trade members received five-figure checks from the De Beers antitrust class action settlement. But how did the real big guys do?

Based on their financial results, here are the checks that were received by the industry’s two biggest retailers:

Zale     $1.9 million (Source)

Signet  $3.9 million (Source)

Other public companies, like Tiffany, Birks, and Blue Nile, have not yet mentioned the settlement in their financial results, but we will keep you updated when they do.

One more note: We are a trade-focused magazine, but as we’ve reported on the De Beers class action, we have gotten inquiries from anxious consumers who sent in claims, asking where their checks are. Last week, I saw one of the attorneys, and he told me the checks should be sent out this month (meaning December). Hopefully that’s true. However, keep in mind we have nothing to do with administering this settlement. So if your check doesn’t arrive in December, don’t blame us!
