What Is the Depalo App?

“Do it for the Insta,” as they say, when you purchase an outrageous meal or travel to a scenic location to secure the best possible photo op. Most people simply want to travel to enrich their lives, but who can blame anyone for wanting to score the coolest, most Instagram-worthy photos no matter where they are?

There’s an app called Depalo that wants to help in that area. Calling itself a “location scout,” Depalo seeks to share the most photo-worthy spots with its users, saving them the trouble of having to look high and low and pointing them in the right direction for memorable, frame-worthy pictures to treasure from their travels.

But Depalo does more than just try to help users score more likes with eye-catching photos on Instagram. “My hope is that Depalo will inspire and encourage people to travel, experience new cities, support local businesses, and capture special moments along the way,” said its founder, Rebecca Aneloski, on the app’s website.

And that’s precisely where jewelers can take advantage. If their store happens to offer a particularly interesting view—a colorful wall or a historic building, for example—they may submit their locations via a tab on the app. While the app is still relatively new (it made its debut on the App Store in June 2019, but it has only 54 ratings to date—though they’re all quite positive), it has plenty of potential, and it just looks like good plain fun.

One brand already making use of the app is Sylvie Collection, the custom bridal jeweler. In partnership with Engagement 101 and Depalo, Sylvie Collection is sponsoring a national photo contest, the prize of which is a $10,000 custom engagement ring.

To enter, users can download the Depalo app to find suggested “Insta-worthy” locations and snap away, tagging their best photos with #SomethingSYLVIE. Entrants must tag all three partners—@sylviecollection, @engagement101, @depaloapp—in addition to following those accounts. To complete the entry, participants must upload their photo to the contest form found on Sylvie Collection’s website.

The contest runs through May 25. The winner will be announced live from the JCK Las Vegas show (the first week of June) by Sylvie Levine, founder of Sylvie Collection, and Severine Ferrari, founder of Engagement 101, at the Sylvie Collection booth.

And speaking of Vegas, what better place to try out the Depalo app than a city that’s famed for its photo ops?
