What Can Retailers Learn From the Monique Lhuillier Fine Jewelry Line for Blue Nile?

We know her bridal gowns—super feminine, with lots of bows and embellishments—and now we’ll come to know her bridal jewelry designs: Monique Lhuillier has launched a fine jewelry line for Blue Nile.

Announced earlier this week, the Monique Lhuillier Fine Jewelry collection of platinum engagement rings and wedding bands will launch this October and features designs inspired by her gowns. Retail prices will range from $2,000 to $5,000, and additional pieces—earrings, necklaces, and pendants—will debut before Valentine’s Day.

I am a fan of these designer collaborations for the limited availability of product they offer—though not so much for the designs, which, often look similar to other products already on the market, the Lhuillier line included. These partnerships are another way to grab the interest of new customers, and spike general interest and sales to fine jewelry. And while I understand the ability of big-pocketed brands and merchants to collaborate with names like this, I am still hopeful to see more resourceful independents work similar deals with names within reach—maybe local celebs, or up-and-coming designers?

Retailers, have you ever partnered with a local celebrity or lesser-known artist to offer shoppers a limited-edition jewelry collection? Please weigh in via the comment function.
