Watch Executive Mort Gershman Dies

Mort Gershman, former president of Movado and longtime executive in the watch industry, died Nov. 2. He was 89.

His passing comes just one week before the 61st anniversary of his marriage to wife Jacqueline.

Born in Providence, R.I., Gershman briefly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After working in the cosmetics and fragrance business, Gershman spent decades in the watch industry, including 12 years with Hattori Corp. of America (Seiko) as president of the company’s Pulsar, Jaz, and Lorus brands and OEM segments. He also served as president of Movado Time Corp. and as executive vice president of Elgin National Industries. In 2001, he joined the JCK show staff. He was also a member of the 24 Karat Club of New York City.

Gershman was active in his local community, especially area hospitals and charities. He played a key role in the discussions surrounding the consolidation of two Elizabeth, N.J., hospitals that resulted in the creation of Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Mort’s memory may contribute to Mort Gershman Memorial Fund at Trinitas Regional Medical Center (click “donate now,” “restricted giving,” and type “Mort Gershman”), or the Gershman Fund at the Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey.
