Surveillance video has been released of the headline-making $100 million jewelry theft that took place this July in Cannes.
In the now-notorious July 28 heist, which is considered one of the largest jewelry thefts in history, a lone gunman stole an estimated $136 million in Leviev gems from the Carlton Hotel in less than a minute.
The man, clad in a hat and a scarf, threatened to shoot exhibitors and guests, and stuffed some 72 jewels in a suitcase before making off on foot.
The gems were part of a display meant to run through the summer. Security guards were present, but they were unarmed. No one was hurt in the incident.
Lloyd’s of London is offering a $1 million reward for information leading to the recovery of the lost jewels.
