Citizen is partnering with celebrated designer Vera Wang (pictured) on a new watch line, a move that Citizen Watch America president Jeffrey Cohen says underscores the brand’s commitment to its women’s watch business.
Now under development, Vera Wang for Citizen is set to debut in spring 2027 with 24 pieces. They will be powered by Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive technology, which converts any natural or artificial light into energy, eliminating the need for battery replacement.
“The designs bring together Vera Wang’s signature sense of modern sophistication and timeless elegance with the classic styling and innovative Eco-Drive technology women expect from Citizen,” Cohen says. “The result is a collection that feels elevated yet approachable—beautifully designed watches created specifically with women in mind.
“As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Eco-Drive innovation in 2026, it felt like the perfect moment to bring that legacy together with a visionary and iconic designer like Vera Wang.”
Cohen notes that women represent a fast-growing segment within the global watch market as well as for Citizen in particular.
“At Citizen, our female consumer base has grown significantly, to roughly 40% of our overall audience. Specifically, women 25-34 have recently been our largest purchasing group. This partnership will only help drive further engagement,” he says.
“During the rise of digital watches, the industry forgot about [the female consumer], but at Citizen, we never did. We’ve continued to listen closely to women and develop collections designed specifically around their preferences and lifestyles,” Cohen adds.
Recent collections such as Citizen L Rainell and Fio show the direction the watchmaker seeks to take with its women’s lines, says Cohen.
“The Citizen L Rainell introduces a bold new teardrop case shape to our most eco-friendly women’s collection, expanding the line with a look that balances elegance and versatility. Meanwhile, the Fio features the smallest Eco-Drive movement we’ve ever created, allowing for delicate proportions and endless styling and stacking possibilities. Both reflect our commitment to designing watches with women at the center of the conversation.”
The Vera Wang for Citizen collection will bridge horology and jewelry, Cohen says, dropping the only hint he can about what the watches will look like. He says the line will include ready-to-wear models, statement pieces, and couture-inspired designs that are gender-neutral. Price points were not disclosed.
In a statement, Wang said she chose to partner with Citizen because it allowed her hands-on creative participation. Wang was involved in concept development, material selection, and case architecture, Cohen says.
“With more than 100 years of watchmaking expertise, they bring a level of technical innovation and craftsmanship that’s rare in the industry,” Wang said in the statement. “Their ability to execute at scale without compromising artistry allowed us to explore new silhouettes and reimagine how time can be worn for women who define their own style.”
A well-known name in bridal and ready-to-wear fashion as well as other sectors, Wang has received the National Medal of Arts from President Biden, France’s Legion of Honor, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Board of Directors Tribute (2023), Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award (2013), and Womenswear Designer of the Year (2005).
At 23, Wang became the youngest fashion editor and stylist at Vogue, where she worked for 16 years before moving to Ralph Lauren as a design director. In 1990, she opened her first flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York, turning traditional bridal design into a fashion opportunity for brides.
Today, Vera Wang operates 17 bridal salons worldwide and has more than 15 licensing partnerships in eyewear, fragrance, home goods, tuxedos, paper, fine jewelry, and spirits, with brands such as Signet, Kohl’s, Men’s Wearhouse, Coty, and Chopin.
