A Closer Look at Vacheron Constantin’s New Ultra-Thin Perpetual Calendars

Share

Vacheron Constantin has introduced two dial variations of its Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, a model recognized for fitting a full perpetual calendar into a case just 8.1 mm thick. Coinciding with the Swiss watchmaker’s 270th anniversary this year, the release underscores the ongoing competition to make complicated watches as thin as possible.

These new editions bring updated aesthetics. The 4300V/220R-H144 features a gold-toned lacquer dial and 18k 5N pink gold moon phase disc, hands, and hour markers, set off by blue accents for legibility. The 300V/220G-H151 pairs a burgundy lacquer dial with 18k white gold, and has similar blue highlights.

Each model comes on a solid gold bracelet but is accompanied by two rubber straps and fitted with the brand’s quick-change system. The rubber straps are blue and white for the pink gold watch, burgundy and white for the white gold.

At the core of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin’s design is the caliber 1120 QP/1, an automatic movement only 4.05 mm thick. Despite its slimness, the watch delivers all elements of a perpetual calendar—day, date, month, and moon phase—along with a 40-hour power reserve. It also carries the Geneva Seal.

Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas is among the slimmest watches in regular production within the ultra-thin perpetual calendar category. Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak measures 9.5 mm thick, while Patek Philippe’s 5940 is over 8.5 mm. Bulgari holds the thinnest perpetual calendar title, with its Octo Finissimo at just 5.8 mm.

Offering both everyday wearability and a remarkable engineering profile, the Overseas is priced at €137,000 including VAT, approximately $120,000 before taxes.
