For me, the word burlap calls to mind images of that scratchy stuff I drape over grass seed in the yard when I’m trying to regrow bald patches of lawn that my big dogs inevitably destroy. But for Thistle & Bee, burlap has a much more sophisticated meaning. This summer, the New York City–based firm is debuting its Burlap Silver & Gemstone collection (suggested retail prices currently range from $325 to $1,050). Rings, bracelet, earrings, and pendant necklaces are available, each with a light and pretty combination of colors; the $250 bangles pictured feature combinations of chrome diopside and peridot, citrine and lemon quartz, and iolite and blue topaz.
According to Thistle & Bee, the collection “combines a dynamic new texture, reminiscent of intricate burlap fabric, with a colorful selection of fine, multi-tonal gemstones,” and “reflects inspiration from careful exploration and exotic world travels.”
I’m not sure where in the world a selection of burlap dazzled Thistle designers, but knowing that such a utilitarian medium can inspire this kind of style should offer plenty of hope to the creatively challenged.
