U.S. companies, long forbidden from bidding in De Beers’ online auctions to avoid conflict with American antitrust rules, are now free to participate, says De Beers spokesman David Johnson.
The policy change is effective with the upcoming April 28 auction.
De Beers’ auction sales—which involve 10 percent of its output—have taken on a new prominence in recent years, with consistent winners now given consideration to become sightholders.
