Designer Khushboo Lakhi does a marvelous job of taking raw, natural-color diamonds and creating from them some of the most beautiful designs to grace JCK Marketplace. Each piece has such personality, thanks to the designer’s choice of diamond slices and earth-toned metals like rose gold to complement the raw stones. Not too shiny or sparkly, yet incredibly detailed and crafted, each piece is a perfect work of art. JCK Marketplace: Could you give me a brief history of the Khushboo brand?
Khushboo Lakhi: Khushboo the brand is an altogether new and innovative venture for me, although the parent company started off in 1941 as a manufacturer of gemstones for wholesale and retail. I wanted to create wearable jewelry for all occasions and age groups, and have not looked back since. I have been fortunate to establish a very large clientele base that exists worldwide.
JCK Marketplace: If you could sum up the Khushboo brand in just a few words, which would you choose?
KL: Youthful, fashionable, soft, fearless, and essential.
JCK Marketplace: What is your favorite piece from your Marketplace showroom, and why?
KL: My favorite piece is bridal earrings, meant for the bride who wants everything sparkling, distinguished, and special for her big day. I love the creamy colors of 18k white and rose gold blending with one another and the natural dark, sparkling champagne diamonds. The asymmetrical, hand-textured lines blend with a classic shape in these earrings that I think are perfect for a celebration!
JCK Marketplace: What inspires you in your designs?
KL: It’s the raw spontaneity of nature that inspires me to act spontaneously over my own designs. The runway shows from Paris and Milan also play a big part in my inspiration to create.
JCK Marketplace: If you could give one piece of advice to jewelry retailers, what would it be?
KL: Retailers represent the jewelry designers, so it’s very important for them to look at the piece from a designer’s point of view. They must understand the importance of each and every aspect of the design, from the price range to the story and the suitable color to be worn with the piece. When retailers and designers work as one mind, they can take the business to unsurpassable heights.
JCK Marketplace: What do you enjoy during happy hour?
KL: I cherish herbal tea!
