Two Eastern Pennsylvania Jewelers Merge

Bixler’s Jewelers has merged with luxury jewelry Avalon, Maurer & Bash. Both businesses have stores located in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley area.

As a result of the merger, which took place Tuesday, Bixler’s will close its Allentown store in the Village West Shopping Center. The Avalon, Maurer & Bash Whitehall store at 1457 MacArthur Road, officially took the Bixler’s name on Friday. The Bixler’s store at Centre Square in Easton will continue to operate under the family name.

A brief store-closing sale at Bixler’s Village West Shopping Center will be held during the holiday season with details to be announced.

Bixler’s, which bills itself as the oldest retail jeweler in America and one of the oldest businesses of any kind in the country, was founded by Christian Bixler III, a Revolutionary War Veteran, in 1785. The original store was located in his home. The store moved to its present location on Centre Square in 1925.

Avalon, Maurer & Bash was established in the Lehigh Valley in 1981. The firm specializes in diamonds directly imported from the Fischler Diamond Company in Antwerp, Belgium, and its couture designer galleries The business run by two generations of the Maurer family.
