Trend Watch: Layering Bracelet-Style Watches

From the October 2009 issue of Lucky magazine comes this style suggestion: Combine a stack of bracelet-style watches and wear them together on one wrist: “Dainty on their own, these retro lady watches become alluringly tough when you pile on different finishes and thicknesses.”The look may be “alluringly tough,” but it’s also physically tough on those watches jostling against one another. As potentially damaging to the watches that suggestion is, Lucky ups the ante with yet an additional take-away: “Add in a few thin, rockerish [sic] bangles and the effect is punky flash with a neat dose of elegance.” By “rockerish,” the magazine presumably means bracelets in styles favored by rock musicians, which styles apparently include rigid chain- and pyramid-style bangles.

Fortunately for all concerned, the most expensive piece shown in the photo is a $95 AK Anne Klein watch. The other watches are by Fossil and Timex ($65 each). All the watches are new and retro-style rather than genuine retro pieces. The bracelets are by Sequin and Noir Jewelry ($30 to $40 each).

This is not a look to be duplicated with one’s good jewelry.
