Trails of Brilliance

The journey of a Forever Brilliant moissanite—currently the whitest moissanite available in the world—starts modestly within a boule, or a crystal of silicon carbide. Years of research, enthusiasm, and commitment by Charles & Colvard’s team of engineers and gemologists have polished the months-long process down to a science. Painstaking inspection of each crystal’s unique properties, colors, and gradation (largely unnoticeable to the untrained eye) is applied to the precise mathematics of cutting, which maximizes the number of gems culled. Over the span of 20 years, the Charles & Colvard team has made modifications big and small with one goal in mind: creating the most dazzling gem money can buy. Forever Brilliant, the end result, then makes a similar journey to that of every precious stone—into the hands of experienced gemologists who handpick the best of the best. Artisans skilled in ancient fine jewelry-making techniques then coax every bit of light and fire achievable from each gem. In all, the journey of a typical Charles & Colvard moissanite can last two months, with roughly a dozen steps including four rounds of grading. At every stage, the single-minded dedication of the people that touch each stone is the real secret behind the highest-quality non-diamond gems on earth. —Kristin Young
