Share

On March 27, Toronto police arrested Amin Hasmani, 67, owner of two local jewelry stores, for allegedly not returning goods consumers had dropped off for repairs and appraisals.

According to a news release from the Toronto Police Service, between August 2023 and February 2024 Hasmani operated the jewelry stores Amiza Diamond and Inaza Diamond and “also offered loan services.” Police alleged said that “when victims would return to pick up their jewelry, the store was closed” and “the accused did not return their jewelry.”

Hasmani has been charged with two counts of fraud, two counts of theft, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

The police statement said that the investigation is ongoing, and that it’s possible more people were affected. Anyone with information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-222-8477 or 222tips.com.

Hasmani’s lawyer could not be reached for comment.
