Tony Spring Takes Over as Macy’s CEO

Share

Macy’s has announced that Tony Spring, 58, has become CEO, effective Feb. 4.

Spring was named Macy’s president and CEO-elect in March 2003. He previously headed the company’s Bloomingdale’s division.

Spring succeeds Jeff Gennette, 62, who is retiring as CEO after 40 years at Macy’s. Gennette will continue as chair of the board until the company’s 2024 annual meeting, when Spring will take over as board chair. Gennette has served as CEO since 2017.

Macy’s recently turned down a purchase offer from two private equity firms, but the New York Post has reported that another private equity company, Sycamore Partners, is eyeing the retailer.
