Tiffany & Co. Brings a Sea of Wonder to Life at Met Event

With the new Blue Book 2025: Sea of Wonder high jewelry collection, Tiffany & Co. uses its heritage designs and new inspirations to capture the iridescent colors found underwater and the bioluminescent hues of oceanic creatures.

Tiffany’s Chief Artistic Officer of Jewelry and High Jewelry Nathalie Verdeille said her designs combine Jean Schlumberger’s aquatic fascinations as the launchpad for Sea of Wonder, which celebrates our collective fascination with oceans—the motion, mystery, and light that play in the deep sea.

To celebrate its debut, Tiffany & Co. hosted an intimate celebration on April 28 to commemorate the collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Attendees included actresses Anya Taylor-Joy, Quinta Brunson, and Mikey Madison, singer Alicia Keys, and super couple Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, all wearing Tiffany & Co. designs.

Musician and singer Alicia Keys wore the Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. Leaves necklace in platinum and 18k yellow gold with more than 47 t.w. cts. of diamonds.

The event’s backdrop also provided a special touch, Tiffany & Co. officials said. The Met’s recently acquired Garden Landscape, a three-part masterpiece of stained glass designed by Agnes F. Northrop for Louis Comfort Tiffany, felt like the right place to host such an evening and a way to honor the Tiffany legacy.

Verdeille said she designed Blue Book 2025: Sea of Wonder in chapters that focus on some of her favorite aspects of the ocean, including Ocean Flora, Seahorse, Starfish, Urchin, Sea Turtle, and Wave.

Sea of Wonder starts with Ocean Flora, which includes Zambian emeralds in deep green that pop against adjacent diamonds. The designs within this chapter attempt to capture the lushness found on the ocean floor as plants seem to wave at you in their underwater garden, Verdeille said.

Actress Gabrielle Union wore a Tiffany & Co. pendant in platinum and 18k yellow gold with a diamond of more than 16 cts. and diamond accents from the 2024 Blue Book Collection.

Schlumberger’s signature 1968 brooches gave life to the Seahorse chapter, but Verdeille said she added a modern twist to these classic designs. These jewelry pieces play with texture as Verdeille used fluted moonstone and colored gemstones, including zircon and sapphires.

Starfish may be the most ethereal chapter, using this sea creature to create sculptural jewelry pieces. Tiffany & Co. employed specialized cutting techniques on Mozambican rubies used in this chapter and accented them with rose-cut diamonds and 18k yellow gold.

Urchin comes back to Schlumberger’s work, using the designer’s favorite Paillonné enameling on these delicate jewelry pieces. But this chapter never forgets the urchin’s thorny texture, ensuring its nature is represented throughout the jewelry.

Quinta Brunson Tiffany
Comic genius and writer Quinta Brunson wore a Tiffany & Co. pendant in 18k yellow gold and platinum with a Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond of more than 24 cts.

The Sea Turtle chapter may be the most intricate, using gold and diamonds to the max. The turtle shell is the main design feature here, and Tiffany artists engraved each jewelry piece with its character. One highlight is the Sea Turtle pendant, which highlights the turtle’s movement from the beach to the ocean as a hidden mechanism turns this piece from a pendant to a brooch.

The Wave chapter allowed Verdeille a chance to play, showing off her interpretation of the ocean’s movement. The star of this chapter is the Wave necklace, which Verdeille designed to feel like a crashing wave. Verdeille said she took cues from Schlumberger’s famous Leaves necklace to make this exquisite jewelry piece.

“While each creation weaves a story of the ocean and its wonders, these extraordinary pieces also tell a broader narrative of the House’s love of pushing boundaries, our relentless pursuit of that which has never been done before, and the spirit of extraordinary savoir faire that has defined Tiffany & Co. since 1837,” Verdeille said.
