Tiffany & Co. awarded a $5 million challenge grant to
the Friends of the High Line, the nonprofit organization dedicated to
the preservation and transformation of the High Line, a 1.5 mile–long elevated
railway–turned–park in New York City.
The challenge grant is part of a five-year $50 million
capital campaign to preserve and convert the High Line into public open
space.
The Tiffany & Co. Foundation was one of the initial
funders of Friend of the High Line. The foundation awarded the group $1 million
for the creation of the Chelsea Grasslands.
“In supporting Friends of the High Line’s efforts…we continue the Foundation’s mission to
help preserve and create the iconic open spaces that distinguish great urban
centers and provide a sanctuary of natural beauty for all to enjoy,” Michael
Kowalski, chairman and CEO of Tiffany & Co. and Foundation board member,
said in a statement.
