This Is What You Should Be Reading, Watching, and Following This Week

The dog days of summer are upon us. My brain is already on vacation. (Too bad my body isn’t supposed to follow until Thursday, when I take off for Berlin!)

I spent the weekend in Solana Beach, Calif., in something of a vacation dress rehearsal with my dear friend and brilliant jewelry designer Katey Brunini, my other dear friend Randi Molofsky (one half of the fabulous For Future Reference team), and my twin sister, Julia. We went swimming in the ocean, drank pinot noir, hiked the beach trail at Torrey Pines State Park, and got massaged by an energy healer who gave me (and my hips) a new appreciation for the powerful connection between mind and body.

Now that it’s Monday, I’m back to work (sort of) and thinking about what I think all of you should be thinking about. Here’s a hint:

Insights Into Millennial Culture in NYC via Refinery29

Everyone’s favorite fashion and lifestyle site is touting the “Millennials of New York” Instagram feed. Although it’s meant to be satirical, the insights seem hilariously real.

Irene Neuwirth’s Dreamy Video for Buick

Two nights ago, I stumbled upon this beautiful and odd little video from Buick, part of the carmaker’s “24 Hours of Happiness Test Drive,” a promotional campaign encouraging anyone with a driver’s license and proof of car insurance to take a Buick out for a spin. Jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth and Moon Juice founder Amanda Chantal Bacon teamed up to create a scent bottled in a “bespoke talisman,” before enjoying a picnic followed by a ride down the Pacific Coast Highway. Might some enterprising retailer conceive a jewelry-borrowing test drive parallel? Why not?

Serious Insights Into Men and Jewelry

A year ago, I wrote an article about the men’s jewelry renaissance for The New York Times. Since then, a flood of like-minded research has emerged confirming the obvious: Men are buying jewelry more than ever (at least since the end of the 18th century). A new article from Karus Chains does a great job of summarizing the influencers and lifestyle trends that are changing attitudes toward male adornment.
