The RealReal, the online luxury consignment company, has named Michael Groffenberger its senior category director for jewelry and watches.

Groffenberger was most recently executive vice president at Shreve, Crump & Low, the Boston jewelry retailer, and before that was a senior sales professional with Tourneau.

The senior category director for jewelry and watches is a new position for the RealReal, and was created in response to the category doubling in revenue this year. The company reports that jewelry and watches represent 20 percent of total 2014 sales, with fine watches showing the fastest growth. 

“We are one of the few companies that has seen success reselling luxury goods in the fine jewelry and watch sector,” said CEO and founder Julie Wainwright in a statement. “We attribute this success to the trust we’ve built with our buyers and consignors, through an unwavering focus on authentication, value, and service. Now with Michael’s deep expertise and knowledge in the sector, I’m confident we’ll be able to scale our business even further in this category.”
