Jurgen J. Maerz, director of technical education for Platinum Guild International USA (PGI-USA), and the Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America (MJSA) have produced The Platinum Bench-a resource that contains numerous techniques for platinum repair and fabrication projects.

The book offers 17 step-by-step lessons, from ring sizing to creating platinum bands with 18k inlay, with more than 200 photos to help guide the way. The book also contains an overview of platinum alloys (including compositions and uses), information on how to prepare a jeweler’s bench for platinum work, a guide to platinum casting for small shop operations, and resources for tools, alloys, and other supplies for platinum work.

Maerz is a world-renowned platinumsmith and a veteran of the industry since 1961. The fourth jeweler in the United States to receive the designation of being a JA Certified Master Bench Jeweler, Maerz has taught seminars in the U.S., South Africa, and England.
