The Instagrammed photo of the engagement ring was accompanied by the caption, “He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!”
Celebrity engagements are always buzzy, but when the celebrity in question is Lady Gaga and the ring is a heart-shape diamond stunner, the excitement is off the charts.
The pop star announced her engagement to actor Taylor Kinney when she Instagrammed a picture of her ring on Feb. 16, writing, “He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!”
Lorraine Schwartz has confirmed to InStyle that she designed the ring but declined to share its price or weight. She did say, however, that “the stone is big and quite beautiful, and actually more expensive than some of the estimates I have read” and that “it’s a challenge to get an excellent heart shape with perfections—the shoulders of the gem have to be totally symmetrical. Lady Gaga’s is all that.”
The stone appears to be between 6 and 10 cts.
Zaven Ghanimian, CEO of Simon G. Jewelry, shared his take with EOnline.com. “I would estimate at least SI1 clarity or better, G color or better,” he said. “For a stone of this size and quality, the price could be up to $400,000. The setting looks to be a simple solitaire with pavé diamonds down the side.”
As for fan and consumer reactions: Lots of heart-eye emojis, naturally.
Us Weekly has already rounded up other heart-shape styles for fans inspired by Gaga’s ring, and if the 600,000 fans who have liked the pic on Instagram, the 42,000 who liked it on Twitter, or the 31,000 who retweeted are to believed, retailers might take care to have heart-shape jewels showcased well beyond Valentine’s Day.
