When Lisa Nikfarjam of Lisa Nik debuted a petite diamond-studded tie design in October at a trunk show in Texas, a female shopper (“a powerhouse in the oil business,” says Nikfarjam) bought the only sample she had, prompting the New York City-based designer to quickly produce more.
Scheduled to ship in January are the first in a series of executive-themed pendant styles that will have big appeal with women in high-powered positions. Ten independent stores so far have placed orders for the ties, which are made in 18k rose gold (yellow and white are in the works) accented with diamonds. Striped and polka dot looks that are about an inch and a half tall are available. Necklaces range in retail price from $1,200–$1,400. The Tiny Jewel Box in Washington, D.C., has a regional exclusive on the item.
“The idea behind the piece is that it’s an opportunity for creating a new market for gift giving,” Nikfarjam tells JCK. “It’s an everyday piece for someone to give to a woman to say, ‘I thought of you because this represents who you are’, or because someone just got promoted. Men are saying, ‘My wife or girlfriend is such a powerhouse, she should be wearing one of your tie necklaces.’”
