Europe has Baselworld, Asia has the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, and America has Las Vegas jewelry week. Our garish manmade oasis in the desert may lack Basel, Switzerland’s quintessential old world charm and Asia’s gateway to nations of emerging wealth, but Las Vegas is uniquely American: big personalities, neon lights, risk takers poised to lose their shirt at any moment (and at any blackjack table), and lots of sequins and glitter to keep the attention focused squarely on the Yanks!

So it’s only fitting that our jewelry industry rolls into Sin City next week with trillions of dollars in sparkling inventory. Many pieces will end up in stores nationwide by fall, and all point to the creativity and zeal of a largely American population of craftsmen passionate about the art they create. These artists, jewelry designers, and manufacturers take great pride and joy in helping others worldwide express the love felt for others in their hearts, but sometimes struggle to articulate. And the store owners—veritable romance experts—will delight in placing the right piece in the right hands at the right moment. We’re all fortunate to be part of this intoxicating industry of love where the creation and sale of jewelry forges indelible connections between people.
