While Seth MacFarlane kind of bombed as the host of the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 24, the fashions were a hit, particularly jewelry. Could tastemakers have tuned into some of industry’s suggestions from the Golden Globes? Consider Anne Hathaway’s Tiffany diamond necklace trailing down her back. Granted it was not a completely open-back dress, and the piece competed for attention with her Prada frock’s crisscross straps, but the uncommon styling technique was appreciated nonetheless. As far as trends, there were a number of diamond riviere necklaces, simple diamond drop earrings, blackened metal styles, and even some oversize yellow gold jewels dusted with diamonds—colorless and natural color—of which Nicole Kidman and Catherine Zeta-Jones were among my faves.
