Texas Jeweler May Have to Pay Out for Snow Promotion

Thanks to two inches of snowfall on Christmas Day, customers of McFarlin’s Jewelers in Amarillo, Texas, may be getting money in their stockings.

The store ran a promotion offering customers who purchased items between Nov. 1 and Dec. 18 a refund on their items if it snowed an inch or more in Amarillo this Christmas.

Pending approval from the Commerce Industry Insurance Company, McFarlin’s will issue checks to customers ranging from $20 to $10,000.

“I’ve been receiving calls like crazy,” Tresa McFarlin, owner of the store, says. “The people who chose to participate were thrilled.”

This is not the first time McFarlin’s has run a promotion related to weather—but it is the first promotion to pan out.

“On Dec. 18, meteorologists predicted there would be a good chance of snow, increasing the traffic in our store,” McFarlin says. The insurance company allowed for additional coverage to include the increased sales.

As soon as the insurance company officially approves the deal, McFarlin will start working on her next giveaway. “I will offer a similar precipitation promotion for Valentine’s Day,” she says.
