Tennessee Jeweler Harold Markman Dies

He and his wife Ida founded Markman’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry in Knoxville, Tenn., in 1976

Harold Markman, founder of Knoxville, Tenn.-based Markman’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry, has died. He was 89.

He and his wife Ida Markman, who died in 2011, opened the Knoxville location in 1976 and the location in Chattanooga in 1978.

A post to the retailer’s Facebook page confirmed the news: “It is with sorrow and a heavy heart that we must inform the community of the passing of our beloved Harold Markman. Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet.”

The phrase Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet is Hebrew and translates to “Blessed is the judge of truth.” It is a traditional Jewish blessing on death.
