Tax evasion charges against jeweler Nebraska Diamond Sales Co. have been dropped—with the county attorney officially declaring that “no crime has been committed.”
The Lincoln, Neb.–based store was accused of avoiding sales tax by shipping products to outside addresses. But the case seems to have fallen apart after tax regulators determined that no tax was owed.
According to a news reports, the store faced a $10,000 fine.
Store owner John Tavlin said that he’s glad his ordeal has ended.
He said that the store has long been a “good corporate citizen” and even refused to ship empty boxes to out-of-state customers when asked.
