Target, Neiman Marcus Team Up for Holiday Collection

Two well-known department stores—one considered low-end, the other considered high-end—are teaming up to offer a holiday gift collection by 24 notable designers.

The release announcing the unusual and unprecedented collaboration, dubbed the Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection, does not specify whether jewelry will be involved, but a Neiman Marcus blog post says the collection will feature “limited edition gift items,” with some items made of “18 kt. gold.”

A Target spokeswoman tells JCK she could not be more specific at this time, but says the collection will include accessories and will “span many categories.”

The designers who have created pieces for the collection include Alice + Olivia; Altuzarra; Band of Outsiders; Brian Atwood; Carolina Herrera; Derek Lam; Diane von Furstenberg; Eddie Borgo; Jason Wu; Judith Leiber; Lela Rose; Marchesa; Marc Jacobs; Oscar de la Renta; Philip Crangi; Prabal Gurung; Proenza Schouler; Rag & Bone; Robert Rodriguez; Rodarte; Skaist-Taylor; Thom Browne; Tory Burch; and Tracy Reese.

The 50-plus pieces will go on sale beginning Dec. 1 at the company’s stores and on their websites. The collection’s prices will range from $7.99 to $499.99, with most items less than $60.

Even though the two retailers are generally thought to cater to different customer bases, “the entire collection, at the exact same prices, will be available both at Target and Neiman Marcus,” says Neiman spokeswoman Ginger Reeder.

To celebrate the partnership, Target and Neiman Marcus are donating a total of $1 million to the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA.)

A joint TV, print, and social media campaign will be launched in November.
