Take A Load Off during JCK Las Vegas

We realize squeezing downtime during the show can be difficult, but it’s important to take some time for yourself. Las Vegas offers many ways to unwind, from spas to salons to shopping and sites to see. Try an afternoon spa treatment, have a drink in the Eiffel Tower, watch the fountains, or get lost in the tropics. Each casino and hotel has something unique to see or do, and it’s all within walking distance. Well, OK, for some, a cab ride!

One of the most beautiful hotels in Vegas, the Venetian, is the most easily accessible from the Sands Expo. If you’re already staying there, lucky you! If not, no problem – you can still take advantage of the spa, salon, shopping and restaurants. Check out their web site: www.venetian.com for package details. The Canyon Ranch Spa Club is located on the 4th floor, offering everything from Thai massage and reflexology to shiatsu and prenatal massage. The fitness center offers a sauna, whirlpool, classes and much more. For manicures, pedicures, hair cuts, colors and facials, stop by the salon, but not before enjoying healthy spa cuisine at the Canyon Ranch Café.

Don’t leave the Venetian without seeing the Grand Canal Shoppes. From the atmospheric lighting and the realistic sky mural on the roof, to the gondolas rides in the canal, you will feel like you are walking down a street in Venice at twilight—you can even take a ride in a gondola. As far as shopping, it’s every major brand you could need in one place: Burberry, Kenneth Cole, Jimmy Choo, Godiva and more.

Just across the way from the Venetian is Treasure Island. If you are a guest here, definitely try to sneak in a morning or afternoon lying by the pool. With a walkway connecting the two hotels, it is super-convenient to the show. Then, after a long day of selling and before beginning your evening out, stop by It’s Wet Spa (www.wetspati.com). They offer evening services every day, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Try the Golden pedicure ($90), a cellulite treatment for $130 or a body scrub at $120. Check out the Web site or call (702) 894-7474 for more information. Daytime offers include a seaweed wrap, mud wrap, spray-on mist tanning and Swedish massage. The salon also has full hair services starting at $50.

The Fountains of Bellagio is a true beauty to watch anytime of day, but especially at sunset. You can see it every half an hour after 3:00 pm (or noon on Saturday and Sunday), and every 15 minutes after 8:00 pm. See www.bellagio.com for more information on the hotel and casino. The Spa Bellagio offers a full range of luxurious treatments, such as aromatherapy massage, $145; couples massage, $280; Thai Yoga Massage, $21; Deep Coconut Surrender ($210); The Meditation Room ($50/hour) and a full fitness center ($25). Call 702-693-7472 for reservations. The Salon at Bellagio also offers full hair and beauty services, with package offers. For major designer shopping, the Via Bellagio features Prada, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, Hermes and others.

If you’ve never been to New York City, the New York New York Hotel & Casino is a good place to start! (www.nynyhotelcasino.com) Spa and salon features Swedish massage, margarita salt scrub, Manhattan mini facial, gentlemen’s facial and Dead Sea body wrap. The Regis Signature Salon does a full range of hair and nail services, as well as waxing and brow and lash tint. Shop in Soho Village for Baby Phat and DKNY, and dine in Times Square for a night, while stopping by the miniature Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building. Rooms are housed in 12 New York-style skyscrapers, which are scaled to approximately 1/3 the size of actual buildings in New York City.

Another great theme hotel, (definitely a cab ride from the Sands), is the Luxor Hotel & Casino. The light from the Luxor Sky Beam can be seen from almost anywhere on the Strip on any clear night. The pyramid hotel also has a life-size replica of the Great Temple of Ramses II and King Tut’s Tomb. Nuture, the Spa at Luxor can be reached at 800-258-9308 for reservations, or see www.luxor.com for more info. They offer an array of deluxe massages, body treatments, facials, and even lash extensions and teeth whitening. Spa passes are complimentary with spa treatments of $60 or more. At Luxor you can also see a movie at the IMAX theatre or visit the King Tut’s Tomb Museum to see exact replicas of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Call 800-557-7428 for tickets and more information.

The Arc de Triomphe at the front entrance of the hotel is a 2/3 replica of the original, with the names and dates of Napoleon’s victories. Finally, at Paris Las Vegas, visit the Paris Spa by Mandara on the second level, for a full massage menu, nail services, tanning, fitness and more (www.mandaraspa.com).

The fitness center is one of the better equipped in the area, offering weights, treadmills, and a large assortment of cardiovascular machines. Bally’s is one of the oldest and most recognizable landmarks in the city, sitting at the famous Four Corners in the center of the Strip.

For a true luxury hotel and spa experience, try Caesar’s Palace. At Qua Baths and Spa, they offer what they call “Roman Rituals,” which include: “Roman BathWater massages, Thermal Stone Deep Relaxation Chaises and exhilarating overhead rain showers.” They also offer various unique services, such as the “Artic Ice Room,” which is a chilled room with glass tiled walls and heated floors and benches, along with falling snow. At the Rio, Brazil’s Carnivale atmosphere is channeled through their free show, the Masquerade Show in the Sky, showcasing performers in bright costumes and masks, with floats suspended from the casino ceiling. Guests can ride one of the floats as part of the performance. If you have a free night, take in the spectacular view of the city from the VooDoo Lounge.
