Takashimaya New York to Close in June



Takashimaya New York, located at 693 Fifth Avenue, will close its doors in June 2010 according to a statement posted on its Web site.

Per the notice: "The store will operate under normal hours until [June 2010]. Online shopping will close on April 2, 2010, at 5pm EST. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their loyal patronage and support over the years."

At press time, a phone call placed to the store’s public relations agent had not been returned.

Takashimaya New York operates a restaurant and offers spa services, in addition selling fine jewelry, gifts, and more. Maya Jewels, Akiyo Matsuoka, and Jordan Schlanger are among the jewelry designers carried by the brand.

The store is owned and operated by Takashimaya Fifth Avenue Corp. and Takashimaya Singapore Ltd, subsidiaries of Takashimaya Co. Ltd., a department store chain in Japan.

Takashimaya New York’s current location was christened in 1993, and its design was intended to make shoppers feel like guests in a home through the use of residential lighting and stone floors.
