TAG Heuer Debuts $197K Diamond-Encrusted Smartwatch

Never mind that it will be obsolete in two years. TAG Heuer just launched a “novelty” smartwatch that costs more than a Tesla.

At the SIHH show in Geneva, the watchmaker showcased its new Connected Modular 41 smartwatch, which is already a pricey device (a consumer can pay as much as $6,750 for a diamond-bezel version).

Also on display was the dazzling TAG Heuer Connected Full Diamonds timepiece, a gem-encrusted smartwatch priced at roughly $197,000.

It is, as you may have already gathered, full of diamonds.

Wareable reports that the opulent white gold-and-diamond smartwatch has the same 45mm case size as the Tag Connected Modular 45, but boasts 18k polished white gold and 23.35 cts. of baguette-cut diamonds.

Despite its blinding gleam, it has the same guts as the Connected Modular 41, which means it is equipped with NFC, GPS, and a host of other quality-but-standard features.

Of course, the luxury factor here is intentionally over the top. The most expensive smartwatch known to humankind before this dazzler dropped was, of course, the $17,000 gold Apple Watch, which is no longer in production.

Unlike Apple Watches, TAG Heuer’s Connected models have value after the tech powering them becomes obsolete. When a Connected becomes outdated, wearers can trade it for an analog watch from the brand at a deeply discounted price.

So…imagining for a second that someone who has $200k to drop on a diamond-encrusted smartwatch is concerned about getting bang for their buck, we’re dying to know what the trade-in value on this baby might be.
